Give an AI draft a clear boundary.
Ask for a rewrite that keeps your facts and leaves new promises out.
Helpful wording can quietly add meaning.
You want to turn a rough note into a friendly email. The assistant may smooth the wording, but it can also add a deadline, a promise, or an apology you did not intend. A good brief says what may change and what must stay fixed.
Use a short fictional note: “The workshop starts at 10. Bring a notebook. Room details will follow.” Ask for a warmer version while preserving those facts and adding no new commitments. The task is rewriting, not planning the event.
A bounded rewrite
10 o’clock · notebook · room to follow
Tone and wording
Compare meaning before choosing style.
Read the result against the original. Does it still start at 10? Does it invent a room or say that materials are provided? A fluent sentence can still be an incorrect sentence for your purpose.
You can ask for two tones while keeping the same boundary. Compare “friendly” with “brief and neutral.” That helps you see how style changes independently of the information. Keep the version that sounds like you, then read it once more before using it.
Rewrite this as a friendly email of no more than 70 words. Preserve all stated facts. Add no dates, locations, promises, or requirements. The workshop starts at 10. Bring a notebook. Room details will follow.
Make it yours.
- Paste the example into an assistant.
- Check its draft against the three original facts.
- Ask for a brief, neutral version with the same constraints.
What changed when you tried it?
A little nudge
Treat added details as changes to meaning, even when they sound helpful.
What to look for
Both drafts should keep the start time, notebook request, and pending room details. They should not invent an end time or location.
Take it one small step further
Ask for a subject line based only on the same note.
Specify what can change and what must stay true.
